Here’s a cartoon from HITRECORD ON TV's episode RE: PATTERNS about the history of how people have repeatedly predicted the end of the world. This collaboration started with a concept by Proi and the script was written and performed by Day Glo. wirrow animated together tons of visuals from the hitRECord community, and the rest is history.

You can watch the full episode on Pivot. It airs Saturday, March 1st at 10pET / 7pPT.

Contribute to the “HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF” collab HERE!

"Stoner Bootlaces" is one of my favorite examples on hitRECord of a record being remixed. WATCH HERE

Ryan Patrick edited together this hilarious remix of "Strawberry Bootlaces," which was a collaborative short film we made together based on the writing by Day Glo (United Kingdom,) a score composed by ozie (United States,) and illustrations from the community that MarieIv (St. Petersburg) animated together with the green screen footage I performed.

We had screened the original “Strawberry Bootlaces” at Sundance in 2012, and months later Ryan Patrick revisited the collaboration and made this. It goes to show that a record on hitRECord can always continue to evolve within the community.

Thanks again <3

"1 Hour, 1 Minute, 1 Second"

Text by fractaldust

My grandfather hated clocks.

Clocks, he said, were deceptive in their construction. They mapped time onto a circle, and told us that every hour, minute, second repeated itself once every day. Around them, we let our guards down, slipped into the easy comfort of repetition, and closed our eyes to the truth: Time was no circle.

On his death bed, he recognized none of us and stared listlessly into space. I think he was looking back on the winding spiral of his life, lingering on every moment he longed to revisit; perhaps in his youth, young brave and stupid, he dared to believe that he could.

He exhaled his very last sigh of regret, and as I closed his eyes, I opened mine: Every second, once passed, was lost forever.

DayGlo (Text Curator) writes:

I love this! Short, bittersweet, insightful, and thematically rich. It is, above all else, beautifully written.

Illustrators could imagine some conceptual clocks, or perhaps what the grandfather looked like on his deathbed; maybe even a timeline of his life, spiralling back into the past.

It’s one of those days when the air is too still. The stillness makes breathing feel forced, and every footstep or conversational call returns from the walls. These echoes make the stillness weigh even heavier. Isn’t this city close to the sea? Shouldn’t there be a breeze to lessen the heat?

I hauled myself out of bed about thirty minutes ago with a mouth like blu-tack in a hotel room that’s not designed for three. Everyone else took the subway out, but I needed to sleep. I don’t hate flying, but travelling exhausts me. I awoke to a room that was half-frozen by the AC, and left overdressed for the sunlicked pavements of the city street.

So I’ll wander over to the subway, and I’ll get a ticket from the machine with these coins that don’t look right. The train will take me to where my family have spent the afternoon. It’ll be even hotter down there, but at least the air moves.

INT. APARTMENT

STEVE sits at a table, eating soup. He is completely absorbed in this activity.

The door to the apartment opens. SIMON enters.

The audience go wild.

Simon tries to deliver his line, but the audience continue to applaud and cheer.

Both actors stay dead still, trying to hold character, for 11 minutes, waiting for the audience to stop making noise.

Fade out.

Commercial break.

Fade back in.

The audience is still cheering and whooping.

Simon makes another attempt at his line. But still, the audience noise will not abate. If anything, their fervour seems to increase in volume and intensity.

Steve has long ago drained his soup bowl. He pantomimes eating, waiting for Simon’s opening barb.

It continues until the end of the episode. Simon continue to stands, Steve remains seated, impassive, expressions fixed, as the credits roll, to rapturous applause.

Fade to black.

wirrow (Global Curator) writes:

how deliciously surreal! i love it and it really strangely rings true. in so many many ways. i obviously dont think we should act this out. but what could we do with it? perhaps it is at its most powerful in this text form but in that case, what can we build around this theme? perhaps other similar pieces?

LET’S REMIX SOME TEXT ON hitRECord!
Day Glo, our Text Curator, has a few words regarding how the community can Remix Text Records on the site in THIS VIDEO.
==
WRITERS & TEXT REMIXERS: You could browse hitRECord & turn a poem into a story, or a story into a screenplay, or an abstract stream of consciousness monologue into… something else!
You can even branch out into the Public Domain for text resources to remix, like Metaphorest did with the text for our short film "Jelly Babies".

LET’S REMIX THE WORLD OF NIGHTSFALL INTO NEW RECORDS!
==
Pamagotchi, our Audio Curator, has a few words regarding Day Glo’s collaboration "Nightsfall," which ANYONE can contribute to.
==
Here’s how YOU can contribute to the collaboration:
WRITERS: You could write new stories that expand upon Day Glo’s Tolkein-esque prologue.
ANIMATORS & FILM MAKERS: It could be really interesting to see Live Action & Animation mixed for a short film version of the story.
MUSICIANS: A score could be developed for the collaboration.
ANYONE ELSE: Adding Voice Overs for the story’s characters or drawing Maps of this world would be a great way to contribute.
