YOU’RE NOT THE ONLY ONE // Instrument & Vocal Request

==

We got a great performance of “You’re Not The Only One” at our shoot at LA’s legendary Troubadour last week.  And now, we’re turning the basic track over to the community to add your parts.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

VOCALS:  Lead Vocals for Verse 2, Group Vocals for the choruses, and harmony vocals for the end.

INSTRUMENTAL PARTS:  Anything and everything (!)

IMPORTANT:  When uploading your work, please include a reference mix of your part(s) in context, and then individual tracks cited as a reference, so we can incorporate your parts into our final mix.  Individuals should be without reverb or other FX, and minimally-processed, please.

=========================================================

LEAD VOCAL:  The lyrics for verse 2 are HERE. Whoever would like to sing them is welcome to.  We may find that one person’s performance hits the spot for the whole verse and use it exclusively, or we may cut between singers or do it in layers, too, depending on how things shape up.  If you’re going to sing part of the verse and prechorus, then please sing the whole thing.

HARMONY VOCALS FOR END:  We’d like to re-record the “answer” harmony parts in the repeating choruses at the end as they are on the reference mix from a few weeks ago.  Check that mix HERE at 3:00 into the song:  The part we’re talking about is the line “You’re not the only one” being sung by the ‘secondary’ backing vocal group…You’ll hear it at 3:06, 3:14, and 3:22 as it fades.

— Please refer to these stems for the individual notes HERE.  There’s only two notes.  If you sing both, we’ll have lots to choose from to make a nice blend of different voices.  On our Troubadour performance, Jerzy, Wunderboy, and Joe handily covered the main harmony parts for the chorus and bridge.  But if you’d like to record them yourself to help thicken them up, we’d love to have it.

GROUP VOCALS FOR THE CHORUSES: For the last chorus and into the long vamp, we want to hear as many people as we can get singing the main melody note of the chorus…No harmonies here, just a bajillion people singing the same line to take the song to the end.  The notes to sing are the ones Spaceship wrote for the chorus are HERE (note: That RECord is a half-step higher…Don’t let that throw you : )

INSTRUMENTAL PARTS:

PERCUSSION AND WEIRDNESS:  This song will be largely about the last set of choruses turning into a big celebratory feeling;  An “everything, including the kitchen sink” sound will be big, rollicking, and fun.  As Wunderboy suggested as part of the introduction at the show, whizzers and expanded percussion and the like, as well as maybe even something like a kazoo or other ‘silly’ sounding instruments (slide whistle? toy piano?)  Also, other small handheld ‘busking’-type instruments like harmonica, recorder, ukulele, accordion, banjo.  Beyond that:

GUITARS:  Our rhythm track is pretty solid at the moment.  Another guitar idea or two could be good, so we’re open to hearing what you’ve got there.  The part we’ve got so far is a clean rhythm part, so maybe something a bit heavier, maybe only in the prechoruses, choruses, and bridge?  That’s what comes to mind first.

HORNS / WINDS:  Definitely in the end chorus, we’d love to get a kinda haphazard, “Salvation Army Band” feeling. Trumpet?  Trombone?  Tuba?  Clarinet?  Playing lines AROUND the melody?  The main melody here which is going to be sung by the group vocals will be so strong, it won’t need bolstering, nor will anything else have much of a chance to be heard through it.  It’ll be great if your horn parts can be arranged as a traditional part that repeats each time the chorus loops, but if you do, I’d still encourage some fun improvising over the last set of choruses too, so that we can build some cacophany there.  Any horns you might add to the earlier parts of the song should be more “properly”-arranged, in keeping with the solidity of the form and track.

ANYTHING ELSE:  Um…duh…?  Whatever you wanna try, if it sounds good, we’ll use it : )

CALLING ALL SINGERS & MUSICIANS!

CALLING ALL MUSICIANS!

For our NUMBER ONE Cold Open collab, we want to create a musical landscape during the countdown that introduces our first TV Show Episode.

==

Here’s how you can contribute:

MUSICIANS:

We need some *one-shot* type sounds for our first Cold Open.  I’m looking for music pieces, as opposed to sounds.  Specifically, short snippets (like, really…2 seconds or so) …A single phrase, or a chord or strike, or a piece to isolate from a longer mix.  We’re looking for unconventional treatments, like stutters, spins, oddly-looped phrases, so maybe try playing something and then messing with it with software or effects trickery…But remember, none of them will be more than parts of a quilt or mosaic, little bits making up a whole.

Please upload your REsults to this collab.  If you’ve got layers, upload the layers as well as a mix.  If you’re REsourcing a longer mix from the site, make a note of the time(s) the parts you’re referring to come in.

Thanks, all!

We’re expanding this new track "Insider/Outsider" for the “RE: Outsiders” collaboration & there are lots of ways Musicians can contribute:
BEAT MAKERS: Add your own beat to the remix.
GUITARISTS: Play some Rhythm Guitar over the Chorus or lay down some chunky Guitar bursts here & there.
FEMALE VOCALISTS: Lend your voice to the Back-Up Harmony.
SYNTH MUSICIANS: Some ’80s electro sounds could really work in this song.
HORN PLAYERS: While this track is already sounding old school as is, let’s see if some Horns would lend themselves to the track.

"808 Love Song"

REmix by Mellow Bloke

Marke (Creative Director) writes:

Wow — this is a super unexpected remix of the 808 beat. I really love the cut-up archival song blending in perfectly and starting to define a structure of verses and choruses.  And there are already a bunch of other divergent remixes that I really like, like this one "To The Moon." Can’t wait to see what happens as this progresses!
